Band, Eve B., and Emily Hecht. Autism Though a Sister's Eyes: A Young Girl's View of Her Brother's Autism. (2001).
Appropriate for: 8- to 12-year old siblings of children with high-functioning autism
This brief book was written by a 9-year-old, Emilly, who has an 11-year-old autistic brother. Having read some books aimed at siblings
with classic autism, she and her therapist wrote this book because she could not relate to many of the more severe autistic symptoms. I had my 9-year-old neurotypical son read it and he said he did relate to some things (like the brother who doesn't like other people over at the house so she couldn't have playdates or when the brother quits in the middle of playing all of the time). If you know a sibling who would like to read about a relatable person, this is a nice book that touches on the negatives of being a sibling but with an overall
very postive tone.
